An Edifying Architecture Tour

On Sunday, 9/11/2016, a dozen Columbia grads were led by Wen Wen, CC '12, Harvard Graduate School of Design, MA Architecture '16,  on an architectural walking tour of Boston.

With a sunny, albeit breezy day, we met in the Government Center area and with a wonderfully outlined map in hand showing key buildings, Wen Wen led us down the cobbled streets to learn about the Brutalist Period, the advent of the "super block," and see the evolution from the colonial period through Victorian Age in a new light.  We learned a tremendous amount about the materials used, the tension and interaction between architecture and urban planning.and why someone would plan to take a hammer to texture smooth concrete.  We are planning another tour, led by Wen Wen, in the Fall of 2017 focused on architectural highlights in Cambridge. Mark your calendars now to save the date since you will not want to miss this edifying event (and get some exercise too).
