Celebrate Earth Day with fellow alumni and friends at the Urban Farming Institute (UFI). The Columbia Alumni Association of Boston has worked closely with the UFI to bring you a unique opportunity to build and repair raised beds, plant fruit bushes, and perform other general cleanup around the farm. Space is limited, so please only RSVP if you will attend. We will also run and update a waitlist for this event.
For each person participating, please e-sign the release form here.
Day-of logistics:
Our group will meet at Woodrow & Lucern located at 214 Woodrow Ave, Boston, MA. There is plenty of street parking. Please dress and prepare for the weather: water bottles, sunscreen, comfortable clothing and shoes, etc. We will provide gloves and tools. We hold our volunteer days rain or shine, but may elect to cancel due to heavy downpour and thunderstorms. In the event of cancellation, we unfortunately cannot accommodate a volunteer group indoors. The direct cell for Melanie Floyd (our volunteer coordinate) is (860) 389-3474 for day-of needs or after-hours weather communications.
UFI’s mission is to develop and promote urban farming to engage individuals in growing food and building a healthy community. At UFI we believe that food is a universal right. We envision a city whose vacant land is abundant, food cultures are diverse, and people are excited to grow and share food. For UFI, the goal is to bring people delicious food and healthy eating options, to transform neglected land in neighborhoods, and to contribute to economic and environmental resilience by localizing the food system. We are a small team that depends heavily on the support of our partners, community members, and volunteers so that together we can uplift our communities. Depending on the cadence of the growing season, volunteers assist our farmers with tasks ranging from mulching to weeding, planting to harvesting.
