The Columbia Alumni Association of Boston invites you to a Saturday morning meet up and walk around on Saturday May 6. We will meet at Sullivan’s (2080 William Day Boulevard South Boston) at 10:30am and walk the 2.2 mile Castle Island/Sugar Bowl loop together.
There is plenty of free parking and the event is accessible by T via bus (#7 from South Station or the #9 from Back Bay) and a 3/4 mile walk.
Friends, kids and dogs are welcome (encouraged even!) but dogs must be leashed (your friends and kids are up to you!).
If there is inclement weather Saturday we will pivot to Sunday May 7.
The walking route circles Fort Independence and Pleasure Bay and there is very little shade so bring a hat and sunscreen.
Come join us, get some exercise and meet some new folks and fellow alum.
Attendees can walk either one or two laps depending on their preference. Afterwards, we will host a BYO picnic in the Park’s designated picnic area.
You can bring your own or visit Sullivan’s, an iconic Southie landmark since 1951, and sample their fare. Alcohol is not permitted at Castle Island.
Castle Island has been a fortification since 1634, making it one of the oldest in North America. It’s served as a fort, a prison, a hospital and a quarantine station and is now a National Park. Edgar Allen Poe was stationed at Castle Island during Army duty and it reputedly inspired one of his most famous short stories.
