Wine holds a special place in our society. It is viewed unlike any other spirit or beverage. Expertise in wine connotes class and sophistication. Special occasions are celebrated with champagne, romantic dinners made more romantic with a bottle of wine. Songs are sung and poems are written about it. Wine even has its own god, Bacchus. No other potable can boast such a robust lineage.
The nine wines being poured for this evening were curated from Sorrosa Market’s excellent selections from the world’s major wine regions. There are the familiar Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc to those to become more familiar with, such as Cote Du Rhone and the classic Amarone Della Valpolicella. All the wines enjoy 90+ ratings from Wine Spectator or other serious wine reviewers. Along with the wines will be charcuterie boards with an array of cheeses, salami, and prosciutto.
To learn more about each wine and how to make better wine choices, our own Barnet Sherman (SIPA ’82) will lead the tasting. Barnet has traveled the world visiting vineyards and winemakers, from Anderson Valley, California to Burgundy, France to Coonawarra in South Australia. He completed Level 3 of the Wine Spirits Education Trust certification, passing the tasting portion of the exam with Merit.
